Scope
Using Face Recognition is the most popular method for naming traditional group photos, enabling the user to very quickly name the vast majority of people in the group photo by matching the faces in the group with the faces in the subject images.
However, in situations where subjects did not have a portrait image taken, the faces in the group photo cannot be successfully named. In these situations, Face Recognition can be used in conjunction with Job Collection to lookup other jobs - notably jobs from previous years. The feature will search both subject and named group images in the other jobs and where matching faces are found, they are presented to the user for confirmation.
Before you begin
Two prerequisites and two recommendations should be considered before you begin.
You will need to have this job in a Collection. The system will search through the collection starting with the first job in chronological order. Ideally the jobs in the Collection would have both matched portrait images and named group photos from NeoGroup as both these entities will be searched.
More information on Collections is available here:
All jobs in the Collection should have had the subject faces detected. Note it is not necessary to detect faces of the group photos in Images Mode of NeoGroup.
More information on detecting faces is available here:
It is highly recommended the user be familiar with naming group photos using face recognition since, in most cases, the bulk of people in the groups will be named this way. This leaves only the exceptions needing to be identified from past jobs.
More information is available here:
A very similar procedure to that described here is available to help identify unmatched subject images using other jobs. It is therefore strongly recommended that the user be familiar with that procedure.

Groups with unrecognized faces
In Names Mode, any groups with issues - usually one or more faces that have not been named - are indicated by a yellow ‘attention’ icon.
Further attention icons are present in the list of row names for rows that contain the unidentified faces.

In the screen grab above, note the warning icons next to several groups. For the selected group a warning icon is also present for the row containing the unnamed face - the staff member in position 8 of Row 3.
Identify the unrecognized faces
Groups with unrecognized faces can be identified one at a time, several at a time or by selecting all the groups.
Note
Even though selecting all the groups will likely include finished groups that have no unrecognized faces, there is no harm in leaving them selected as the identify process will simply ignore them.
For this reason it is easier to simply select all the groups with Ctrl-A rather than select individual groups by Control clicking.
To identify the unrecognized faces
Select the groups from the list or simply select them all with Ctrl-A
From the menu, select Names>Identify unrecognized faces or use the Ctrl-Alt-F5 keyboard shortcut
The Identify window appears
Confirm matches with the Confirm or Confirm All buttons
The name from the identified face will be added to the name list
Understanding the Identify window
The Identify window in NeoGroup, will be very familiar to users already identifying unrecognized subject faces using other jobs.
Key points of the Identify window:
The left side image is the unrecognized face in the current job’s group photo
The right side image is the matching face found in one of the jobs in the Collection
The matching face may be either a subject image or a face found in a named group photo
The data in the left side column (Recognized) is the data from the found face in the Collection
The data in the right column (Identified) is data for the subject in the current job
The Find panel on the right can be used to manually find a subject.

When group faces do not have a subject record
It is not uncommon for staff members not to have a portrait image. Furthermore it is possible these staff members will not even have a subject record in the job.
In these circumstances, the Identify process will not display any data in the Identified column for the staff member since a matching subject does not exist in the current job. The user can simply select the Create button in the Find panel to create a subject with the same Firstname, Lastname and ID as the recognized subject from the historical job.

Figure 3: The found face does not have a subject in the current job.
In the screen grab above, the unrecognized face was found in the previous year’s job as Arely Brandt in the staff folder. Since there is no such subject in the current job, the user can select the Create button at the bottom right to create a new subject in the current job using the same name and ID as that recognized from the previous year.
